Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2012

Leica Oskar Barnack Preis 2012

Frank Hallam Day of the USA is the winner of the “Oskar Barnack Award” in 2012, named after the inventor of the Leica. His photo series titled “Alumascapes” won over the Jury around the Magnum photographer Bruce Gilden.

“Alumascapes” is the result of a month-long journey through Florida. In his images, Frank Hallam Day depicts the phenomenon of man and his environment in a unique manner and makes recreational vehicles (RV’s) – ultra-modern, high-tech and luxury homes on wheels – the brightly lit and dazzling stars of his pictures.

Polish photographer Piotr Zbierski is the winner of this year’s “Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award”. “Pass by me”, his winning portfolio, represents the culmination of a project that Zbierski has been working on for five years and that led him to depict emotions and the question of how these alter how we see reality.
